Latine Class

About

Latine Class is a weekly ceramics class at Gasworks NYC, the community clay studio on Fifth Avenue in South Slope, Brooklyn. Taught by Jessica Ayala, it is designed for Latine students to work in community and get comfortable with clay. Beginners learn basic hand-building and wheel-throwing, while intermediate students work on their own projects with the instructor's help. The class meets on Saturday evenings from 7:30pm to 10pm. The fall term runs for twelve weeks, which the page dates as 14 September to 6 December 2026, so it is already under way; ask the studio about joining mid-term. The price covers studio access (open 6am to 10pm), clay, over 50 custom glazes and use of the wheels, slab roller, extruder and community tools, while firing is charged at 3.5 cents per cubic inch. The page does not state a minimum age. Refunds are tied to the start of the semester. Pricing is on a sliding scale: $75 (Seeding), $375 (Sustaining) or $675 (Generating). Gasworks is at 673 Fifth Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11215. The R, F and G lines serve the area. Gasworks lists Queer For Clay on Thursday afternoons and Clay For The People, both on the same $75, $375, $675 sliding scale.
