One Day Punties & Gathers: Glassblowing Bootcamp is a one-day, drill-based class at UrbanGlass in Downtown Brooklyn on Sunday, November 22, from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Instructor Malcolm Kriegel runs repeated practice of the two moves the rest of hot-shop work depends on: gathering glass from the furnace and working on a punty. The studio says plainly that, because it is a drill class, you should not expect to make complete pieces, and nothing is collected afterwards. Some glassblowing experience is recommended but not necessary, and the minimum age is 14. Safety and tools are covered. The hot shop is loud and warm, glass is molten at about 2000 degrees, and you will sit, stand and lift roughly 5 to 10 pounds. Health and safety guidelines are emailed at registration. UrbanGlass does not print a price on the class page, so check the booking page for the current fee. UrbanGlass is at 647 Fulton St, Brooklyn, NY 11217, in Downtown Brooklyn within a few blocks of Nevins St (2, 3, 4, 5), DeKalb Ave (B, Q, R) and Hoyt–Schermerhorn (A, C, G).
