Second Sundays
About
Second Sundays is Pioneer Works' free open day in Red Hook, Brooklyn, held on the second Sunday of every month from noon to 6 pm. Programming spreads across all three floors and the garden, with open studios, exhibitions, workshops, live music and food. The September 2026 edition listed a BioBus mobile lab, an exhibition scavenger hunt, Seaweed City: Sugar Kelp and Community Science, solar gazing, gallery dialogues and a performance of Dysnomia Live: Silent Green at 4 pm. Each month's line-up changes, so read the current month's page before you go. It is open to all ages. Admission is free, with a free RSVP. Food comes from Mijo, and there is a Pioneer Works bar. Pioneer Works has hosted Second Sundays since 2013. The page does not print a capacity or say what to bring. Pioneer Works is at 159 Pioneer Street, Brooklyn. The nearest subway is Smith–9th Sts (F/G), then the B61 bus; the NYC Ferry to Red Hook/Atlantic Basin is the other option. It is the only Pioneer Works listing on our calendar. For other free openings, Poster House waives admission on Fridays and on the third Sunday of each month, and MoMA's UNIQLO Friday Nights are free for New York State residents with a reservation.
